Oglethorpe holds off Hendrix, 84-82

ATLANTA - Oglethorpe (Ga.) made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 6.6 seconds left to propel the Stormy Petrels to an 84-82 win over Hendrix in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action inside Dorough Field House, snapping the Warriors' wins streaks of three games in league play and two contests in the series.

With Oglethorpe (15-5, 9-1 SAA) trailing 82-80, Dimetri Chambers' third-made trey Friday, the last coming from the wing, put his team ahead for good. After Lane Foster missed the second of two free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining, a full-court heave by Hendrix (13-8, 6-4 SAA) sailed wide of the basket.

Sean Coman sank two free throws with 13 seconds to go, giving the Warriors a two-point advantage.

In a game which featured eight ties and seven lead changes, Hendrix's largest advantage, 46-36, came with 3:42 left before halftime following two Seth Stanley free throws. The Warriors led 48-47 at intermission after shooting 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from distance and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the foul line in the first 20 minutes.

Chambers ended with 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting, going 3-of-11 beyond the arc and 6-of-8 from the foul line. Foster scored 15 points and was 9-of-11 from the charity stripe to go along with nine assists.

Uba Ezigbo had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the Stormy Petrels. Will Koch tallied 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Ezigbo and Koch each shot 2-of-4 from deep.

Oglethorpe shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) overall, 27.3 percent (9-of-33) from 3 and 81 percent (17-of-21) from the free throw line.

Stanley ended with 29 points on 9-of-24 shooting, including 6-of-16 from behind the arc and a 5-of-6 clip from the stripe. The 16 3-point attempts marked the third most in program history.

Hendrix's Alex Conrad recorded 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting inside the arc. Coman chipped in 14 points after making four treys and both free throw attempts.

Conrad and Carl Fitch each shot 3-of-4 from the stripe.

Coman hauled in a game-high nine rebounds. Conrad and Fitch had seven apiece.

Jack Eaton dished out a career-high six assists for the Warriors. Coman had four and Jackson Parks three, as Hendrix totaled 18 on 28 made field goals but fell to 5-1 this season when recording 18 or more assists.

The Warriors shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) overall, 32.4 percent (11-of-34) from 3 and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the stripe.

Hendrix outrebounded Oglethorpe 39-30, including 9-6 on the offensive glass, leading to nine second chance points.

The Warriors travel to Berry (Ga.) on Feb. 6. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT.
