DANVILLE, Ky. - RV/NR Hendrix split the first two contests of a three-game series with Centre (Ky.) on Sunday to open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play at Gary Wright Field. The Colonels won the first affair, 5-4, but the Warriors rebounded for a 2-1 triumph in game two.
In game one, Jordan Gunter had two hits and three RBIs for Centre (8-6, 2-3 SAA).
Jess Miller made the start on the mound for the Colonels but got a no decision, allowing two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts, two walks and two wild pitches in six innings. Will Orren (1-0) earned the win with three innings of relief, giving up two earned runs on as many hits with three strikeouts, a walk, wild pitch and hit batter.
Drake Job batted 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Hendrix (15-2, 1-1 SAA).
Juan Pablo Leon had two hits.
Jacob Carpentier drove in two runs.
Adam Bland drew a pair of walks.
The Warriors'
Andrei Stoyanow pitched six innings but got a no decision, allowing one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts and four walks.
Kyle Wellman (0-1) suffered the defeat after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits without recording an out in relief.
In game two,
Joseph Watts produced two hits and a run scored in the win. Bland, Job and
Rail Gilliam each had a hit. Gilliam drove in a run. Bland scored once.Â
Jack Hodgins (5-0) picked up the win on the mound, allowing one unearned run on seven hits with a school-record 14 strikeouts in six innings.
John Henry Fowler (1) earned the save with an inning of shoutout ball.Â
Josh Cunningham recorded two hits and a run scored in the loss.
Carson Werrmann (2-2) went the distance on the mound in defeat, surrendering two runs, one earned, on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks, a wild pitch, balk and hit batter.
Hodgins and Werrmann each threw 110 pitches.
The rubber match is set for Monday at 11 a.m. CT.
