SEWANEE, Tenn. - RV/NR Hendrix extended its overall win streak to four with Saturday's 4-1 series-opening win over Sewanee (Tenn.) at Montgomery Field. The Warriors have won three-straight games against the Tigers and in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play.
Hendrix (18-2, 3-1 SAA) plated all the runs
Andrei Stoyanow,
Nathan Silva and
Teddy Olander would need in the top of the fourth inning. A
Tyler Beard RBI walk broke a scoreless tie. A
Joseph Watts sacrifice fly in the next at-bat proved to be the game-winning RBI.
Sewanee (2-15, 0-4 SAA), which has lost 14-consecutive games overall, cut its deficit in half with a Jack Ahlum RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, but the Warriors added two insurance runs in the seventh off a
Zach Marriott RBI double in addition to
Drake Job touching home via an error by Wade Sansone.
Rail Gilliam and
Owen Shaw each batted 2-for-4 in the victory. Job and Shaw each scored twice. Beard drew two of Hendrix's seven walks.
Stoyanow (2-1) picked up the win on the mound, going 6.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks. Silva tossed 0.2 innings of perfect relief. Olander (1) got the save with two hitless innings out of the bullpen to go along with a pair of strikeouts and walks.
Four different Tigers had one hit.Â
Matt Munn (0-4) took the loss after pitching the first four innings, surrendering two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and four walks.
Hendrix and Sewanee conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader Sunday. First pitch in game one is set for noon CT.
