Stoyanow, Fowler blank Oglethorpe in DH split

CONWAY, Ark. - No. 25/NR Hendrix split a doubleheader Saturday with Oglethorpe (Ga.) at Warrior Baseball Field. The Warriors won game one, 1-0, but dropped the second contest, 14-7.

In game one, Andrei Stoyanow (3-1) allowed just six hits and fanned eight against just two walks in 8.1 innings, earning the win on the mound for Hendrix (21-3, 6-2 SAA). John Henry Fowler (3) picked up the save, throwing 0.2 innings of relief with a strikeout.

An Owen Shaw RBI single in the bottom of the third inning proved to be the game-winning hit.

In the top of the ninth, Fowler inherited a bases loaded jam with only one out but retired the side by getting an out at home on a safety squeeze followed a strikeout of Harrison Hall on three pitches.

Shaw and Adam Bland each batted 2-for-4. Bland had a double and run scored. Hogan Ralston drew two free passes.

The win was the seventh-straight overall for the Orange and Black, sixth-consecutive in league play and third in a row at home.

Sam Mills was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Stormy Petrels.

Colby James (0-2) pitched 6.2 innings for Oglethorpe (9-13, 3-5 SAA), allowing one earned run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts, walks and hit batters.

In game two, Hendrix cut a 6-0 deficit to one with a five-run third. Shaw started the scoring with a two-run single. Juan Pablo Leon followed with a RBI when he reached on a fielder's choice. A Ralston two-run single made the score 6-5, but the Stormy Petrels answered with a four-run fifth.

Oglethorpe's Andrew Noach and Mason Pearcy each batted 3-for-4. Mills plated three. Noack scored three times.

Jake Hill (2-0) pitched 2.1 innings out of the bullpen for the win, surrendering one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and as many walks.

Bland batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Reigning SAA Player of the Week Zach Marriott had a triple, while Rail Gilliam, Jacob Carpentier and Joseph Watts each had a double. Shaw drove in three and Ralston two.

Jack Hodgins (6-1) took the loss on the mound after giving up six earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 1.2 innings. Will Graves threw 0.2 innings of perfect relief.

The rubber match of the series is Sunday at noon CT.
