Conway, Ark.- The Warriors hosted Centenary College and Westminster College (Mo.) in a round-robin style tournament to kick off their 2023 season. First-year head coach Jaydan Hunt left the weekend with four wins under her belt and some impressive stat lines for her players. The Warriors plated 47 runs over 4 games.
Game 1: The Warriors took game 1 from a talented Centenary squad 6-4. The Warriors really put it together at the plate when it counted. Grace Bryant blasted a 2-run homer in her first at bat. Aubrey Lee collected 3 hits and 1 RBI while scoring once. Betty Wolfe and Aubrey Lee both stole a base. Makayla Ragland threw a complete game, picking up the win and a save.
Game 2: The second game of the day for the Warriors ended in an extra-innings walk-off following a hotly contested game that went back and forth from the start. The Warriors plated 7 runs on 7 hits while drawing 7 walks. Betty Wolfe and Tori Veith had a multi-hit game. Veith and Grace Bryant each collected multiple RBIs (2 and 3 respectively). Paizley Vaught hit a clutch double and subsequently scored. The Warriors walked it off on a Westminster error in the ninth inning. Tori Veith got the win in relief of Kelsey Sample.
Game 3: A 10-run top of the first gave the Warriors a massive lead early that they did not relinquish for the rest of the contest. The Warriors strung together 18 hits and were granted 13 base-on-balls. Four Warriors had multi-hit games: Aubrey Lee (4 hits), Kelsey Sample (4 hits), Kendal Rainey (3 hits), and Samantha Wood (2 hits). Two of Aubrey Lee's hits were good for extra bases, as was one of Wood's two hits. Tori Veith secured her second win of the weekend, throwing all 5 innings.
Game 4: The final contest of the weekend was another hotly contested matchup between the Warriors and Centenary. The Warriors dazzled at the plate, scoring 14 runs on 16 hits. Five Warriors had multiple hits in game 4: Aubrey Lee (2 hits, 1 triple), Betty Wolfe (3 hits, 1 RBI), Emma Barrentine (3 hits, 2 RBI), Andie Houser (2 hits, 1 RBI), and Hannah Fewell (3 hits). Tori Veith came up big for the Warriors in the fourth inning with a grand slam that cleared the right-center field fence and still hasn't landed. Emma Barrentine picked up the win.
