Conway, Ark. - On a weekend marred by the wind, rain, and cold, Coach Kristi Crowley's squad provided the fireworks as the Hendrix Warriors scored 31 goals across their opening two contests to race out to a 2-0 start to the 2023 season.
The Warriors defeated Missouri Valley 18-2 in Friday evening's season opener, then followed that with a 13-8 win over Huntingdon on Sunday.
Two freshmen wasted no time making their mark on the young season.
Peyton Refling exploded for 19 points ( 13 G, 6 A) to lead the Warriors in scoring, while midfielder
Alaina Palmer netted 5 goals to go along with an assist.
The usual suspects of
Lillian Sonner and
Brenna Kuenzi picked up where they left off in 2022. Sonner finished the weekend with 10 points (6 G, 4 A). Kuenzi currently sits at 7 points after netting 5 goals and registering 2 assists.
Sene Harness found the net versus Missouri Valley, as did freshman
Kinley Robinson to celebrate her collegiate debut.
Senior goaltender
Alexis Williams was fantastic over the three days, making a couple critical saves on free position attempts versus Huntingdon to keep the score in favor of the Warriors.
After the 2-0 start, Hendrix now enters conference play with an early Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest versus the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrals next Saturday.
