Conway, Ark. - The Hendrix Warriors welcomed the Sewanee Tigers to Grove Gymnasium having dropped their last five contests in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), knowing a win would help keep the Warriors in contention for a favorable seed in the SAA tournament.
A Warrior offensive spectacle proved to be too much for the Tigers, as Hendrix shot 47.3% from the field and a remarkable 10-19 from distance to blow past Sewanee 77-63.
Sewanee started off hot from distance, nailing two long balls for an early 6-2 lead.
Megan Gray then took matters into her own hands, knocking down two from behind the arc to give the Warriors an 8-6 lead. It was an early lead, but it was one Hendrix would hold onto for the rest of the evening.
Hendrix led 32-29 at the half before outscoring the Tigers 22-11 in the third quarter to build a comfortable lead entering the final quarter of play.
The Warriors had five players finish in double-digit scoring figures.
Madi Pierce led all scorers with 20 points. She shot 8-16 from the field and recorded 8 defensive boards.
Megan Gray finished the night with 15 points, all of those coming on three-point field goals. The freshman from Greenwood was 5-9 from behind the arc.
Shelby Heil grabbed 6 rebounds to go along with a career-high 14 points.
Simone Shields and
Blysse Harmon both put together 10-and-6 performances.
The Warriors are back in action this Sunday, as they welcome league-leading Centre to Grove Gymnasium for a Sunday matinee. Tip-off is set for 12:00 PM CT.
