Conway, Ark. - Over the last three days, the Hendrix Warriors made a bad habit of digging themselves in a hold early.
They also made a habit of digging themselves out of that hole.
Two days after Hendrix beat 2nd-place Sewanee after mounting a 17-point comeback, the Warriors once again found themselves down big, this time against Centre, a team the Warriors had beaten in January after trailing by 10 midway through the second half.
The Colonels led by as many as 21 in the first half, but a 5-0 Hendrix run at the end of the half, sparked by a
Braden Weaver long ball, gave the Warriors some momentum heading into the break.
Centre was lights out in the first half, shooting just under 54% from the field, while Hendrix shot just 29%.
The second half was another matter entirely. While the Colonels cooled down to 34.48 FG%, the Warriors exploded to shoot 48.39% from the field while knocking down 7 three-pointers.
A
Colten Berry two-handed slam evened the score at 55 with 5:08 to play. Berry then followed that up with a crafty left-handed finish to give Hendrix the lead. They would not surrender that lead.
Daniel Cobb would knock down three free throws in the last minute to seal the win and complete one of the largest comebacks in program history.
Cobb, Weaver, and
Caleb Squires led the Warriors in scoring with 11 points each, while
Tyler Deithloff finished with 10.
The Warriors improved to 5-6 in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), two games back of Rhodes and just one behind Birmingham-Southern with just three games to left in the regular season.
Hendrix heads to Jackson, Miss. on Friday night for a showdown with the Millsaps Majors, knowing that a win could take them one step closer to potentially hosting a first-round SAA tournament game.
