Conway, Ark. - Women's Lacrosse hosted the Illinois Tech (IIT) Scarlet Hawks for a Monday night non-conference contest at Warrior Lacrosse Field, looking to halt their two-game losing streak after starting off the season 2-0.
Peyton Refling got the scoring started under three minutes into the game, before IIT equalized just 23 seconds afterwards.
It was all Hendrix after that. The Warriors scored five unanswered goals, with two each from
Alaina Palmer and
Lillian Sonner, to jump out to a 6-1 lead with 3:38 left to go in the 1st quarter.
2nd quarter goals from
Brenna Kuenzi,
Sophia Smith and Refling ensured that Hendrix would go into the halftime interval with a 9-5 lead.
Three unanswered goals from IIT early in the 3rd quarter made the game more interesting than the Warriors would like until a six-goal explosion from the Orange and Black put the game beyond reach.
Of note,
Emerson Lejong scored her first career goal 40 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Perhaps the best storyline of the night:
Abigail Kellar got the start in goal in just her third-ever competitive lacrosse match, and made 5 saves to get the decision. She started her first two games in the field, and now has a 1-0 record in the net.
Refling led the Warriors in scoring with 7 points (5 G, 2 A), with
Lillian Sonner totaling 6 points (3 G, 3 A).
Hendrix now hits the road for three consecutive games, two of which are in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play against Centre and Berry.
