Jackson, Miss – The Warriors traveled to Mississippi to take on the Millsaps Majors for their second away series of Southern Athletic Association play. The Warriors were 13-4 entering the weekend and they were 5-1 in the SAA.
Game 1: Lefthander Cade McWilliams made his first start of the 2023 season in his seventh appearance of the year. McWilliams allowed nine runs (two earned) on six hits and five walks in four and one-third innings of work. McWilliams was followed up by Nathan Silva, Ethan Thomas, and Gunner Hopkins who combined to only allow one run on four hits in the last four and two-thirds innings of play. Ethan Thomas threw two shutout innings, allowing only an HBP.
At the plate, the Warriors scored four runs on five hits while drawing a whopping nine walks, but this was not enough to allow the team to come back. Hogan Ralston collected two of the Warriors' five hits, and he scored once. The Warriors did not get on the board until the sixth inning after the Majors' starter, Bonnecaze, left the game. The Warriors plated two in the top of the ninth on an Adam Bland sacrifice-fly and a Joseph Watts bases-loaded walk, but this was too little, too late. The Warriors dropped game one by a score of 10-4.
Game 2: The Warriors put the pieces together on the mound, at the plate, and defensively in game two of the series. David Blackburn delivered on the hill, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits and five walks while going the distance and throwing a complete (seven-inning) game for the second time in as many weekends.
In the batter's box, the Warriors collected twelve hits and drew seven walks while plating ten runs. Adam Bland, David Ripple, and Drake Job all notched multiple hits and accounted for a big part of game two's offensive explosion for the Warriors. Bland went a stunning 4-5, collecting one RBI and scoring twice. One of his four hits was good for extra bases. Zach Marriott and Job had a pair of RBIs each, and Captain Canada's RBIs came on a double. The Warriors won 10-2
Game 3: Jacob Wagner made his sixth appearance of the year, this time making a start rather than his usual bullpen outings. Wagner was good for three and two-thirds innings of solid work, allowing two runs (both unearned) on four hits and four walks. Wagner was relieved by Bobby Fowler in the fourth, who allowed three runs (two earned) in one and two-thirds innings before leaving the game when his brother, John Henry Fowler got the call to the bullpen. The senior of the Fowler brothers allowed one run in two-thirds of an inning, ending his consecutive scoreless innings streak. Gunner Hopkins shut down the Majors for the last two innings of the game. Bobby Fowler took the loss; his record is now 1-1 on the year.
The Warriors plated three runs on six hits while drawing six walks. Two of the Warriors' hits came from Zach Marriott (one being a double). Zach Marriott and Rail Gilliam are both credited with an RBI each, with the first Warrior run scoring on a wild pitch. The Warriors were stymied by some costly defensive miscues late in the game and the bats fell silent, allowing Millsaps to edge out a 6-3 win.
