Softball Splits Doubleheader as Wood Walks It Off in Extras

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix hosted Arkansas Baptist for a doubleheader on Thursday to complete a marathon of softball that saw the Warriors play 4 games in just over 24 hours.

Arkansas Baptist took Game 1 6-1 and looked well on course to sweep the doubleheader, taking a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th. Hendrix had other plans, mounting a furious charge that took Game 2 into extra innings. With two outs and Hannah Fewell waiting on third, Sam Wood came in clutch, driving an RBI single up the middle to complete the comeback.

Game 1
- Hendrix plated the game's first run in the home half of the first off an Aaliyah Marrero RBI walk
- Arkansas Baptist would tie it up in the next half inning
- An offensive drought for both teams ensued, with no runs scored until the 6th when Arkansas Baptist plated 5 runs on 3 hits with an astounding 4 errors
- Aubrey Lee's 1-out single up the middle in the bottom of the 7th provided a spark, but the Warriors were unable to capitalize

Game 2
- Arkansas Baptist plated a run in the 2nd for an early lead before a 3 RBI triple in the 3rd gave the Buffs a 4-0 lead
- 2 more runs would score for Arkansas Baptist in the 3rd to take a 6-0 lead into the 4th
- Emma Barrentine drove in Peyton Frady on a sacrifice fly for the Warriors first run to make the score 7-1
- Kelsey Sample's 2 RBI single in the 5th gave the Warriors a lifeline heading into the final two innings
- Hendrix would own the 6th, holding Arkansas Baptist scoreless before plating 4 runs to tie the game at 7-7
- Barrentine retired the side in the top of the 8th to set the stage for a potential walk-off
- Andie Houser's sacrifice fly to left advanced Hannah Fewell to third before Wood drove her hom

Barrentine was terrific in Game 2, entering in relief of Betty Wolfe to throw 5.1 innings of 1-run ball with 4 strikeouts.
