Majors Sweep Warrior Softball

Conway, Ark.- The Warriors hosted Southern Athletic Association opponent the Millsaps Majors for a three-game set at Warrior Softball Field.

Game 1: Makayla Ragland started in the circle for the Warriors in her sixth start of the season. In three and one-third innings of work, Ragland allowed eight runs (five earned) on five hits and four walks as well as a handful of errors by the warrior defense. Kelsey Sample threw the last inning and two-thirds, allowing no runs on two hits.

At the plate, the Warriors managed a mere six hits and did not plate any runs. Betty Wolfe had a two-hit game, and Paizley Vaught notched a double. The Millsaps starter, Derouen, kept the Warrior bats cool for the duration of the contest, and earned a shutout win. The Warriors dropped Game 1 by a score of 8-0.

Game 2: Tori Veith got the ball to start Game 2 of the weekend. In five and one-third innings, she gave up seven runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks. Betty Wolfe came in relief of Veith with one out in the sixth and allowed nine runs (six earned) on seven hits in two-thirds of an inning. Kelsey Sample closed the game out with a shutout frame.

The Warriors notched six runs on eleven hits with three hits coming from the bat of Paizley Vaught. Grace Bryant, Betty Wolfe and Kelsey Sample were each good for two hits with Grace Bryant notching a double, sacrifice fly, and 3 RBIs. The Warriors were leading 6-4 going into the sixth inning. They dropped Game 2 by a score of 16-6.

Game 3: Makayla Ragland made her second start of the series and tossed three and one-third innings. Ragland allowed five earned runs on seven hits before turning the ball over to Emma Barrentine who threw the last three and two-thirds, allowing two earned runs on four hits and five walks.

The Warrior offense was much sharper in Games 2 and 3 than it was in Game 1. The Warriors just barely came up short. They scored five runs on eleven hits. Betty Wolfe, Grace Bryant, and Gabby Naples were all good for multiple hits. Grace Bryant drove in all five runs between her triple in the third and a homerun in the fifth. Despite the massive output of production at the plate, the Warriors dropped Game 3 by a score of 7-5. The Warriors will be back in action Saturday April 15 at Rhodes College. Their record stands at 9-20 (1-14 SAA) with one weekend of regular season SAA action remaining.
