Mount Berry, Ga.- The Warriors hit the road this weekend to play Southern Athletic Association opponent, Berry College in Georgia. Berry sits atop the Division-III rankings at #5, holding a 21-4 record (8-0 in SAA) going into the weekend. Hendrix held a 9-13 record (1-7 in SAA).
Game 1: Tori Vieth took the pitcher's circle for the Warriors, and she put together a solid outing against a talented Berry team. Veith allowed three earned runs on six hits in three innings pitched. Kelsey Sample came in relief and threw the last three innings of the game, allowing two earned runs on six hits.
The Warriors were not as successful at the plate. The Berry pitching staff allowed the Warriors a mere three hits and two hit-by-pitch. The Warriors struggled to get anything going. Aubrey Lee, Kelsey Sample, and Kendal Rainey accounted for all of the Warrior offense, and Paizley Vaught was twice hit by a pitch. The Warriors could not answer Berry's five runs and dropped game one 5-0.
Game 2: Emma Barrentine started game 2 for the Warriors. She threw four and one-third innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on twelve hits and three walks. She took her first loss of the year, moving her record to 4-1.
At the plate, the Warriors managed two hits against some stiff competition from Berry's Hannah Gore, who picked up her eighth win of the season. The Warrior's two hits came from the bats of Paizley Vaught and Andie Houser. Berry's starter allowed only two baserunners in the five-inning complete game. The final score was 8-0 in favor of the Vikings.
Game 3: Tori Veith, Makayla Ragland, and Emma Barrentine pieced together six innings in game three. Veith allowed two earned runs on three hits in three full innings pitched. Ragland allowed four runs on five hits in two innings, and Barrentine let up one run on one hit and one walk.
The Warriors managed three baserunners in this game: an Aubrey Lee double, a Paizley Vaught single, and an Emma Barrentine hit-by-pitch. The Vikings' pitchers performed well all weekend, and Blair Hall was no exception. She followed up two of the best pitching performances the Warriors had seen from an opponent all season with yet another solid effort, keeping a well-hitting Warrior lineup off the basepaths and collecting ten strikeouts. The final score was 7-0 in favor of Berry.
The Warriors will be back in action this Friday and Saturday, hosting Southern Athletic Association opponent Millsaps College for a three-game set beginning at 5:00pm CST on Friday.
