St. Louis, Mo. - Hendrix opened up the 2023 season in a dominant fashion, defeating Webster in straight sets in their opening match at the Bear Invite in St. Louis.
Camryn Presley and
Carys Shock led the Warriors with 8 kills each.
Hendrix totaled 41 points over the three sets to Webster's 30 in what proved to be a comfortable victory for Coach Brittany Newberry's side. The Warriors fought off a late rally in the first set after leading 24-21, with
Kyler Greenlee setting up Presley for the set-winning point.
The second set was tightly contested, but with the two teams even at 19-19, Hendrix rattled off 6 of the next 7 points to take the second set 25-20.
The third set was all Hendrix. The Orange and Black led by as many as 7 points in the set and never let up, with
Hailey Gripka scoring the match-winner from
Adilynn Henry.
Enaiya Thompson,
Camryn Kennedy, and
Mary Addisyn Stubbs joined Shock, Gripka, and Henry as the six freshman to make their Hendrix debut on Friday.
The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow as they take on hosts WashU and North Central.
