Conway, Ark. - Hendrix won its second game in as many days, defeating Centenary in straight sets en route to a 2-0 finish at the Hendrix Warriors Invitational.
It was a match in which the Warriors never felt too threatened. They won the first set comfortably, and were able to pull away late in the second set to set up the sweep opportunity.
Both teams went back-and-forth to start the third set until the Ladies went on a run. Hendrix trailed by as many a 5 midway through the set. With the score at 16-11, the Warriors went on a run of their own, winning the next 9 points to take a 4 point lead. Hendrix would then win 5 of the next 7 points to clinch the victory in straight sets.
As was the case versus Rhodes the night before,
Camryn Kennedy and
Camryn Presley excelled offensively and led Hendrix in kills. However, the points were well-distributed amongst the Warriors lineup on Saturday, with 6 players tallying 4 or more kills.
Sam Friedl and
Adilynn Henry both helped spark runs with 2 service aces each, the latter subbing in before that massive run in the third set and helping turn the tide.
A particular performance of note was that of
Mariana Leite. The freshman was sensational during her time on the court, finishing the evening with 7 kills.
Freshman
Carys Shock also totaled 7 kills in what was another display of just how potent this freshman class can be for Coach Newberry's side.
The Warriors improve to 5-4 (1-0 SAA) and look to build on their 2-match winning streak tomorrow as they take on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday at noon.
