Conway, Ark. - The Hendrix Warriors lost a 78-76 nail-biter to Sewanee on Sunday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium.
Ava Knoedl and
Riley Brady each recorded career-highs in what was a back-and-forth contest for the entire forty minutes.
The Warriors led for most of the contest, with the lead changing hands 14 times. Both sides traded baskets down the stretch until a late Tiger run gave them a four point lead with 2:23 to play.
Down by three with 00:28 to play, Knoedl was fouled on a three-point attempt that sent her to the line with a chance to tie the game. The sophomore showed excellent composure from the stripe to knock down all three on her way to 27 points.
Two free throws gave Sewanee the lead with five seconds to play, and
Natalie Edmonson's three at the buzzer was just off as time expired.
Brady's 22-and-15 performance is the ninth double-double of the freshman's phenomenal season, her third in four games.
Simone Shields added 9 points before fouling out.
As a team, the Warriors shot 42.6% from the field and connecdted on 26 of their 31 free throw attempts.
The loss drops Hendrix to 2-18 (0-9 SAA). They will remain home next week to host Oglethorpe and Berry in an SAA doubleheader. Tip-off versus the Stormy Petrels is set for 6:00 PM Friday evening at Grove Gymnasium.
