Volleyball's Season Ends in SAA Semifinals

Danville, Ky. - Hendrix's run in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament came to a close on Saturday evening with a 3-0 loss to second-seeded Berry in the semifinals.

The two teams traded points in a back-and-forth first set before Berry was able to a 22-18 lead late in the game. But Hendrix was able to rally to take 5 of the next 6 points and tie the game at 23-23. Berry would eventually take the set by winning the following two points.

The Vikings breezed to a two-set lead with an emphatic 25-11 victory to set up the sweep opportunity, but the Warriors would not go away quietly.

Trailing 9-8 in the third set, Hendrix went on a four-point run that was highlighted by back-to-back points at the net by Catalina Williams. Berry trimmed Hendrix's lead to one, but the Orange and Black kept their foot down with another four-point run to take their largest lead of the evening (5). The Vikings battled back with five unanswered points, which kicked off a marathon game in which neither side could put the other way. Hendrix fended off a couple match points to set up three match point opportunities of their own, but were unable to convert. Ana Bastos kept the match alive at 31-30 to even the score, but Berry was finally able to put the Warriors away with back-to-back points to see off the match.

Bastos and Riley Brady led Hendrix with 8 kills, with the former contributing 2 service aces. Williams tallied 7 kills to go along with a solo block. Mariana Leite was solid at both ends, recording 6 kills with 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Lily Meyer and Adilynn Henry combined for 28 assists.

The Warriors' 2024 season ends after a thrilling 3-1 upset victory over third-seeded Millsaps on Friday afternoon.
