Sewanee, Tenn. - Hendrix closed out the 2024 season with a 27-15 win over the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Historic Hardee-McGhee Field.
The Warriors opened the game with an emphatic 16-play, 75-yard scoring drive that took more than half of the time off the clock in the opening quarter. The drive was capped off by a 1-yard rushing touchdown by
Parker Turley.
Hendrix held Sewanee to a field goal on the ensuing possession, and got back on the board midway through the second quarter as
Jacob Buniff connected with
Kanyn Utley for a 16-yard score. The Tigers responded with their only touchdown of the afternoon to trim Hendrix's lead to 3.
But the Warriors struck quick to end the half as
Westin Bruce raced in for a 65-yard touchdown to take Hendrix's lead back up to two scores. They would go into halftime with a 19-10 lead.
Sewanee tacked on another field goal in the third quarter to trim the Warriors' lead to 6, but Turley found the endzone once again with three minutes left in the quarter for a two-touchdown lead.
The Warriors would take a safety with 7:15 left to play in the fourth quarter, but were able to see of the game comfortably with a couple key takeaways to limit the Tigers offensively.
Buniff finished the afternoon with 276 yards on 23-of-36 passing with two touchdowns. Bruce tallied another 100+ yard game on 5 receptions with a score.
Defensively,
Dylan Doudt led the Warriors with 6 tackles.
Tristian Johnson and
Dylan Stewart combined for a sack. Doudt and
Seth Hakanson each recorded a fumble recovery.
Hendrix caps off 2024 at 4-6. Saturday's contest marks the last time that the Warriors competed as a member of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) as Hendrix ends their 12-year run in the conference on a high note before moving to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCAC) in 2025.
