Nashville, Tenn. - The Hendrix Warriors dropped their 2024 season opener 11-10 to Piedmont on Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the 2024 Music City Classic.
Hendrix found themselves a goal down just after thirty seconds, and the Lions tacked on one more halfway through the first quarter before
Maximus LaMendola netted his first of the season to halve the deficit.
The two sides would trade goals before Piedmont scored four unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead. Then, it was Hendrix's turn for a 4-0 run, as
Nick Quarles and
Klaus Rowan each added two goals to trim Piedmont's lead to one.
Both teams went back-and-forth in the third quarter. LaMendola beat the horn to add his second of the game with 00:07 remaining in the period, and then added a third with just under two minutes played in the fourth quarter.
Jet Long netted his first career goal with 2:40 left to cut Piedmont's lead to one, but the Warriors could not find the equalizer in the final minutes.
LaMendola, Quarles, and Rowan led Hendrix with three goals each.
Hunter Russell,
Marshall Gregg, and LaMendola each scooped up four ground balls, with Gregg causing a game-high three turnovers.
The loss drops the Warriors to 0-1 on the year, and they will continue play in the Music City Classic tomorrow as they face off with Capital at 1:30 PM.
