Birmingham, Ala. - Hendrix lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader with Birmingham-Southern (BSC) on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 (L, 10-0)
The Warriors were run-ruled in a Game 1 shutout loss.
After giving up a run in the 1st inning, Hendrix surrendered four runs in the 2nd as the Panthers raced out to a 5-0 lead. They would plate five more across the next two innings.
Kenyl Patton's one-out double gave the Warriors a lifeline in the 5th inning, but she was left stranded at third as
Betty Wolfe and Rylie Harris each grounded out to the shortstop.
Sadie Lewis was the pitcher of record in Game 1, surrendering 8 runs on 5 hits, with 5 of those runs being earned in 2.1 IP of work.
Wolfe entered in relief and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits.
Game 2 (L, 2-1)
Game 2 was a completely different story than its predecessor.
The Warriors drew first blood in the 5th inning with a Sam Wood RBI single to score
Andie Houser, but would leave three stranded on the bases after scoring just the one run on three hits.
BSC would tie the game up in the home half of the 5th. Both sides were held scoreless in the 6th inning to set up a suspenseful 7th inning.
Tori Maldonado led off the inning with single to right field before being pinch-ran for by
Maggie Groves. Groves then stole second to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. She would reach third after Wood reached on a fielder's choice, but was then thrown out at home for the first out of the inning. Wood was then thrown at home during the next at-bat, before
Peyton Frady went down swinging to end the top of the 7th.
Hendrix recorded two quick groundouts to bring BSC to its final out. The winning run reached first on a single, then reached third on the ensuing at-bat. Hendrix had a chance to get out of the inning with no damage done, but a throwing error on the next at-bat allowed the winning run to score.
Ashlynn Fowler got the start in Game 2 and pitched a gem, surrendering just the two runs, with only one of them earned, on seven hits in 6.2 IP of work.
Maldonado registered a game-high two hits on three official at-bats.
