Conway, Ark. - Hendrix put a stop to an eight-game losing skid with a doubleheader sweep over in-state foe Lyon on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Softball Field.
Game 1 (W, 10-9)
The Warriors got off to a roaring start in Game 1, scoring six runs with two outs on the board and highlighted by a
Kendyl Patton 3-RBI triple.
After surrendering three runs in the 2nd, Hendrix added on three more of their own.
Tori Maldonado doubled down the left field line to score Andi Houser. Maldonado was brought in by a
Peyton Frady single, and Frady then scored off a
Betty Wolfe double to right.
Lyon made it a two-run ball game in the 4th with four runs scored, and then tied it in the 5th off a 2-RBI single.
Hendrix plated the go-ahead run in the next half inning off yet another Wolfe double that allowed Patton to come across.
Ashlynn Fowler got the start in the circle, surrendering seven runs on six hits with only four of those runs being earned while striking out three.
Emma Salis (W, 2-2) was the pitcher of record after allowing just two runs off five hits in 3.0 IP.
Game 2 (W, 4-3)
Lyon drew first blood in Game 2 with a run scored in the 3rd.
Hendrix immediately responded with a four-run 3rd that was kicked off by a
Paizley Vaught RBI-double. Fowler and
Nakia Fields followed that up with RBI-singles. Houser plated the fourth run of the inning after taking advantage of a wild pitch to score from third.
Lyon would make things interesting late with a run scored in both the 5th and 6th innings, but
Sadie Lewis and Wolfe limited the damage to hold off the Scots and see out the 4-3 win.
Lewis (W, 2-4) was the pitcher of record in Game 2 with a fantastic outing, allowing just three runs on five hits in 6.0 IP of work. Wolfe (S, 1) entered in relief in the 7th and put Lyon down in order to earn the save.
Vaught and Fields each recorded two-hit outings with an RBI each.
Up Next: Hendrix will remain in Conway to square off with Central Baptist College for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch for Game 1 at City of Colleges Park is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
