Conway, Ark. - Hendrix dropped both games of its Southern Athletic Association (SAA) doubleheader with #7 Berry on Friday afternoon at Warrior Softball Field.
Game 1 [L, 8-0 (5)]
The Warriors were shut out in a Game 1 run-rule loss.
Betty Wolfe and
Andie Houser both enjoyed two-hit outings and were the only source of offense for Hendrix in the first game of the doubleheader, with the former leading off the 1st with a double to center field.
Ashlynn Fowler (L, 2-6) was the pitcher of record, giving up eight runs on seven hits with a strikeout.
Emma Salis entered in relief in the 5th and tossed a shutout, hit-less frame.
Game 2 [L, 12-2 (6)]
Wolfe once again led off the bottom of the 1st with a base hit with Hendrix trailing 1-0, and
Paizley Vaught reached on a one-out single before stealing second base. But the Warriors were unable to tie the game, leaving the two runners stranded with a fly-out followed by a ground-out.
Trailing 7-0 in the 4th, Hendrix finally got on the board as
Nakia Fields singled up the middle with two outs to score
Ashlynn Fowler.
Tori Maldonado followed that up with a single to centerfield to advance Fields to third, but the two runners were left stranded in the 4th.
Wolfe and Vaught both reached on singles in the bottom of the 5th but were once again left stranded.
Trailing 12-1 in the home half of the 6th,
Layton Rogers led off the inning with a triple down the right field line, and later scored as Maldonado induced an error by the Berry shortstop to cut the Vikings' lead to ten. But that would be all Hendrix could muster in Game 2 as the run-rule was brought into effect after the final out of the 6th was recorded.
Sadie Lewis (L, 2-6) was the pitcher of record in Game 2, surrendering six runs on five hits, with only four of those runs being earned while recording a strikeout in 1.1 IP of work. Salis once again entered in relief and tallied three strikeouts while giving up six runs on seven hits.
Up Next: the Warriors will look to steal one from the Vikings tomorrow in a single contest. First pitch for Game 3 is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Warrior Softball Field.
