Conway, Ark. - Hendrix came back to defeat the Ozarks Eagles 8-7 on Tuesday evening at Warrior Softball Field after falling behind 6-1 early to their in-state foes.
Ozarks plated four runs in the top of the 1st, three of those unearned off a 3-run home run with two outs.
Andie Houser put the Warriors on the board with an RBI single to score
Betty Wolfe in the bottom half of the inning, but that would be the only run the home side could plate in the 1st as they left the bases loaded.
The Eagles put up two more runs in the 2nd to take a 6-1 lead, before Hendrix blew the doors off in the next half inning, scoring six runs to take a 7-6 lead. They would not trail for the rest of the contest.
Ozarks tied it up in the 3rd off an RBI-single. The Warriors would retake the lead in the 5th inning off a fielding error that allowed
Rylee Harris to score the winning run.
Sadie Lewis got the start in the circle and settled in nicely after the 1st inning blitz, allowing seven runs on ten hits, with only four those runs being earned.
Emma Salis came on in relief in the 5th and was superb en route to the winning decision, tossing 3.0 IP and only giving up two hits to shut down the Eagles in the latter stages of the game.
At the plate,
Betty Wolfe was 2-4 with two runs scored. Houser finished 1-3 with two runs batted in.
The win improves Hendrix to 3-6 on the year. They will now get set to begin conference play this weekend in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) on the road in Danville, Ky. versus Centre.
