Jackson, Miss. - Hendrix won the first of two games of their weekend series with Millsaps on the final weekend of league play, but were unable to decide the series after inclement weather put a stop to Saturday's rubber match.
Game 1 (W, 2-1)
Hendrix took a 1-0 lead in the 1st after
Betty Wolfe sent a solo shot to right field for her first home run of the season.
With
Kendyl Patton on second base and two gone in the top half of the 2nd, Wolfe delivered again, this time with a single up the middle to drive in Patton for the Warriors' second run of the game.
It would prove to be the winning run as Millsaps was unable to score again after scratching one run across in the bottom half of the 5th.
Hendrix got two wonderful performances in the circle from
Ashlynn Fowler and
Emma Salis. The former got the start in Game 1 and tossed 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball while allowing the lone run from the Majors en route to the winning decision.
Salis entered in relief of Fowler in the 6th and shut the door on the Majors as she only gave up 2 hits in 2.0 innings.
Hendrix outhit Millsaps 6 to 5, with Wolfe, Fowler, and Patton each tallying 2 hits each.
Game 2 (L, 9-4)
The Warriors led off Game 2 with a 2-0 run lead in the 1st inning courtesy of runs scored by Wolfe and
Paizley Vaught after the former led off the game with a single up the middle.
Millsaps hit back in the bottom half of the 3rd to halve the deficit, but Hendrix responded with two runs in the next half inning, highlighted by a
Tori Maldonado RBI-single to score
Andie Houser.
The wheels fell off in the bottom half of the 4th as the home side scored five runs to take a 6-4 lead.
Millsaps added three more in the 6th for a 9-4 lead to help them see the game off for good.
Game 3 (Canceled)
Saturday's rubber match was called off in the 2nd inning due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions with Hendrix leading the Majors 5-2.
Up Next: Hendrix (10-24, 3-14 SAA) is locked into the 7th seed for next weekend's Southern Athletic Association (SAA) playoffs and will head to a location to-be-determined to begin postseason play.
