Birmingham, Ala. - Hendrix dropped their opening game of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) playoffs in a 8-2 decision to Birmingham-Southern (BSC) on Friday afternoon.
BSC scored five runs in the bottom of the 1st, but the Warriors would make a dent in that 5-0 lead in the next half inning.
Kendyl Patton drew a one-out walk and then reached second on a
Tori Maldonado single to right field.
Layton Rogers laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, and
Betty Wolfe brought Patton home for the Warriors' first run on a single to center field. Maldonado was brought in on the next at-bat as
Peyton Frady went opposite way with a single to right field.
After
Emma Salis pitched a scoreless frame in the bottom half of the 2nd,
Ashlynn Fowler and
Andie Houser both reached to lead off the 3rd inning, but the Warriors failed to take advantage as the next three hitters were all retired.
Hendrix struggled to manufacture traffic on the base-paths in the subsequent innings and ultimately could not keep up with BSC as the Panthers saw out an 8-2 victory.
Wolfe and Frady led the Warriors with two hits and an RBI each.
Emma Salis scattered 9 hits in 6.0 innings of work, allowing 8 runs across with only 3 of those being earned.
Up Next: The Warriors will fight to keep their season alive tomorrow as they take on Millsaps in an elimination game at 2:30 PM in Birmingham.
