Conway, Ark. - Hendrix scored its joint-most runs in a game this season with a 19-2 thrashing of Lyon on Tuesday evening at Warrior Baseball Field.
Jack Hodgins, who already held the program record for career strikeouts, made more history on Tuesday evening as he earned the 19th win of his career to go atop the all-time leaderboard for wins by a pitcher. Hodgins scattered 10 hits in 5.0 innings of work with 3 strikeouts.
The Warriors got on the board early in the 1st as
Drake Job and
Zach Marriott each reached on one-out singles before
Ian Guthrie drove them both in with a double to left-center field.
Hendrix doubled its lead in the 3rd inning as Job reached on an error before being brought in by a Marriott triple to left-center. Marriott would eventually score from third base off a sacrifice fly from
Owen Shaw. The home side added two more in the 4th, with Hogan Ralson and
Adam Bland each hitting doubles and scoring runs.
The Warriors took a 9-0 lead as
Zylan Brown,
Austin Rabago, and Ralston all touched home.
The floodgates opened in the bottom of the 7th as the Warriors plated 10 runs in an inning where Hendrix batted around the order before Lyon recorded an out.
Ralston led off the inning with a walk,
Joseph Watts singled up the middle, and Bland was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Marriott then tallied his third RBI of the evening with a hit-by-pitch, and
Charlie Deaton then drove in two more runs with a triple to right field to make it a 14-2 game.
With runners on the corners and still no outs, Brown recorded his first hit of the game to score Deaton. Rabago then drew a walk to load the bases once again, and
Diego Alvarado pinch hit for Ralston as the Warriors batted around and was able to draw an RBI walk to score
Shaun Pope.
Watts and
Cooper Drury both recorded RBIs on ground-outs, before
Conrad Myers shot a ground-ball through the left side to score Alvarado for the 19th and final run.
Klayon Wingfield entered in relief of Hodgins in the 6th and pitched two scoreless frames with a couple strikeouts.
Gunner Hopkins and
Teddy Olander both pitched a 1-2-3 inning to seal the victory, with both recording a strikeout.
