Danville, Ky. - Hendrix was defeated 13-3 by Rhodes in a run-rule affair in their opening game of the Championship Tournament at the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament.
The Warriors will await the loser of Centre-Sewanee in tomorrow's first elimination game of the weekend.
After surrendering 8 runs to Rhodes in the first 6 innings, Hendrix finally got on the board in the home half of the 6th courtesy of a
Griffin Baird sacrifice fly to score
Drake Job after the right fielder led off the inning with an infield hit. However, the Warriors would leave two stranded to end the inning after the final two hitters were retired.
Trailing 13-1 in the bottom of the 8th with the run rule in effect,
Owen Shaw led off the inning with a walk before Baird poked a single through the left side to put two on with no outs.
Austin Rabago sent a one-out single up the middle to load the bases, and
Shaun Pope took advantage of the RBI opportunity as he singled to right field to score Shaw and Baird.
But that would be all the scoring that Hendrix could muster in the 8th, which brought the run rule into effect to end the game prematurely.
Rhodes outhit the Warriors 15-8, with Hendrix also committing 3 errors in the field.
Hendrix now enters the elimination bracket, and they will play tomorrow at 2:15 PM CT with the hopes of keeping their season alive.
