Box Score 3 Houston, Texas - The Hendrix Warriors volleyball program opened up the 2024 regular season on the road at the University of St. Thomas (TX) Invitational with matches against St. Thomas, Schreiner, and Lewis & Clark.
University of St. Thomas (TX) (L, 3-0)
Hendrix dropped the first set 25-15 after hitting .063 with 7 attack errors to boot. Hendrix started out strong in the second set and led 14-9 midway through the set with
Riley Brady and
Ana Bastos leading the resurgence. But the offensive woes eventually returned with St. Thomas able to capitalize on the errors to take a two-set lead. The Lions would breeze through the third set to win the match in straight sets.
Bastos led the Warriors with 8 kills, hitting .065 on 31 total attacks. Brady followed that up with 5 kills on 13 attacks.
Schreiner (W, 3-2)
Camryn Kennedy tallied a career-high 19 kills in a stellar offensive effort to help the Warriors to their first win of 2024.
Hendrix took a commanding two-set lead and looked to be in comfortable position before dropping the subsequent two sets to set up a winner-take-all fifth set. Service aces from
Lily Meyer,
Adilynn Henry, and
Faith Jones put the Warriors in poll position in the final set, and a couple errors from the Mountaineers helped Hendrix see off the set and clinch the victory.
Bastos one-upped herself from the season opener, notching 9 kills in the win over Schreiner, while
Perri Evans and
Catalina Williams each had 7 kills apiece.
Lewis & Clark (W, 3-0)
Hendrix picked up its second win of the day in straight sets over Lewis & Clark thanks to a balanced attack that saw four players with 6+ kills.
Camryn Kennedy led the way with 9 kills, while Evans and Williams once again notched 7 kills apiece.
Ava Burns recorded 6 kills, and
Adilynn Henry gave the Warriors a massive boost with a career-high 3 service aces.
Up Next: Hendrix (2-1) will head to Marshall, Texas weekend to compete in the East Texas Baptist (ETBU) Invitational that will included matches with Willamette (Ore.), Huntingdon, Hardin-Simmons, and ETBU.
