Rome, Ga. - Hendrix's woes versus the state of Georgia continued on Friday night in a 73-42 loss to the Berry Vikings. It was the Warriors' second-consecutive loss to the Vikings in seven days.
The two teams traded baskets in the opening three minutes before Berry scored 14 unanswered points to take a 23-5 lead at the second media timeout.
Caleb Squires came out of the timeout on a 6-0 scoring run, converting three shots from the line after being fouled on the shot and then knocked down a triple to make it 23-11.
Jaxon Herrera then went on a 5-0 scoring run with a couple baskets and a free throw to bring Berry within 7. Squires' fastbreak layup with 4:34 remaining in the half cut the Vikings' lead to 6, but the Vikings would end the half on a 14-5 run to take a 40-25 lead into halftime.
Whatever momentum the Warriors had generated in the later stages of the first half dissipated quickly in the second half as Berry roared out to 50-31 lead right before the first media timeout of the half, their largest lead of the evening up to then. By the second media timeout, they led 56-36 and never let up from there on out en route to the 31-point victory.
Tyler Deithloff led the Warriors with 14 points. Squires contributed 8 off the bench.
Hendrix shot just 27.6% from the field and an astonishing 14.3% (3-21) from behind the arc, whereas Berry shot 50% from the field and over 45% from distance.
The Warriors (2-18, 0-7 SAA) now head to Atlanta for a rematch with Oglethorpe as they continue to seek their first win in conference play. Tip-off at Dorough Field House is set for 1:00 PM CT.
