Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Outlasts McMurry in Tense Affair

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix has won two games on the bounce with a 3-2 win over McMurry on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Soccer Field.

Josh Montgomery gave the hosts an early lead with a goal inside of three minutes. With an early advantage, Hendrix continued to apply pressure on McMurry but were unable to capitalize on the momentum after an early wave of corners. But McMurry was limited to just three shots in the first half and failed to threaten Hendrix's goal.

The visitors started the second half brightly, with the Warriors suddenly on the back foot. But in the 59th minute, Clatyon Somogyi made it two goals in the two games for the sophomore after poking in Ayden Putnam's long throw in the box.

Five minutes later, McMurry halved the deficit from the spot. Hendrix was then afforded a spot kick of their own 13 minutes later, and after Montgomery's initial kick was saved, Jack White's squared ball across the six-yard box found Montgomery, who then laid it off for Adam Tibary for an easy tap-in to give Hendrix a 3-1 lead.

McMurry won another penalty just two minutes later and converted from the spot to reduce the lead back down to one, which made for a stressful last ten minutes. The tension of the second half showed with four goals between the two sides and a total of five bookings in the last twenty minutes, including a red card shown to head coach Jeff Trimble.

However, Hendrix was able to see the game out in the end and secure their second-consecutive win in the SCAC. In total, there eleven cautions issued in the match.

The Warriors (4-6-2, 3-2-1 SCAC) now hit the road to take on St. Thomas on Friday night in Houston before traveling to Shreveport on Sunday to face the Centenary Gents.
