Shreveport, La. – Hendrix's amazing form in league play carried into Sunday afternoon as the Warriors hammered Centenary 3-0 at Atkins Field.
Goals from
Caleb Nichols,
Conner Smith, and
Josh Montgomery were plenty enough to earn Jeff Trimble's side all three points. Sunday's clash was a battle between third and fourth in the conference standings, with the fourth-placed Warriors hopping the Gents in the league table with the decisive victory.
Nichols scored the match opener in the 33
rd minute when a deflected shot found Nichols around the penalty spot, who calmly slotted his finish past the Gents' goalkeeper to give Hendrix their first goal. Smith put the Warriors two goals ahead six minutes later. The Gents misplayed a free kick swung into the box, with Smith able to tuck in the rebound from a tight angle for his first goal of the season.
Montgomery gave Hendrix an insurance goal in the 74
th minute with a superb finish on a one-on-one with the Centenary keeper after a lofted ball over the top from
Ayden Putnam.
Gregorio Medina Armas and
Kasey Lauderdale combined for a clean sheet, with Armas earning the win after making two saves in 83 minutes of action. The Warriors outshot Centenary 19-12 on the day, with seven of Hendrix's efforts being on frame, including the three goals. Meanwhile, Hendrix's backline limited the Gents to just two shots on goal.
With the win, Hendrix jumps to third in the league table, just three points shy of league-leaders Texas Lutheran. Hendrix has now won four league matches in a row, which ties the program record set back in 2022.
The Warriors will close out the regular season with a string of three home matches, which begins next Friday when they host Austin College at Warrior Soccer Field for a 7:30 PM kick.
