Georgetown, Texas - Hendrix men's lacrosse opened league play in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) on Saturday afternoon against Southwestern, falling to the Pirates 23-7. It was the first time these two programs have met as conference foes.
The Pirates opened up the match on a 7-0 run in the opening 10 minutes before
Joseph Davis got Hendrix on the board with his first-career goal, assisted by
Zachary Cox.
Nick Quarles gave the Warriors a second just a minute later to cut the deficit to 5. It would be the closest Hendrix got to Southwestern on the afternoon, as the Pirates scored 5 unanswered to take a 12-2 lead. Quarles netted his second goal of the contest midway through the second quarter, but the Pirates would take a 15-3 lead into halftime.
Klaus Rowan opened up his account early in the third quarter with a goal assisted by Quarles, before Quarles netted his third goal of the afternoon at the 8:34 mark. Quarles would add two more goals, both assisted by Rowan late in the fourth quarter to take him up to five on the day.
Ian Domeika recorded 7 saves as the goalkeeper of record. Kellen Harger entered in relief of Domeika midway through the final quarter and totaled 4 saves.
Michael DeCaro went 10-of-27 on faceoffs.
Hendrix (0-2, 0-1 SAA) will remain on the road this upcoming week as they head to Nashville to participate in the Music City Classic with neutral site matches versus the Illinois Institute of Technology and Piedmont.
