Conway, Ark. - Hendrix softball dropped two games to Central Baptist College on Tuesday evening at Warrior Softball Field. The Warriors failed to take advantage of having the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh in a 4-2 loss in Game 1 before being run-ruled in Game 2.
Game 1 (L, 4-2)
Hendrix opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a
Peyton Frady bases-loaded RBI single to score
Austynn Caudle. However, the Warriors had two runners thrown out on the same play, which halted the home team's offensive momentum in the inning.
The Mustangs tied it up in the top of the third on a lead-off solo shot to left field. It was the first hit that
Emma Salis gave up in her complete-game performance. She was able to work around a one-out single to retire the side with jus the one run given up. Hendrix retook the lead in the next half inning when
Rylee Harris brought home
Betty Wolfe after Wolfe led off the inning with a triple to right field.
Tori Maldonado reached on a two-out single but the Warriors were unable to manufacture any more offense in the meeting.
CBC scratched two runs across in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, and tacked on a fourth in the fifth inning. After
Alyssa Sornia grounded out to lead off the bottom of the seventh, Wolfe and Harris each singled, and Maldonado loaded the bases with a two-out single, but Caudle flew out to left field to end the game and leave the bases loaded.
Salis impressed in 7.0 innings of work, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
Game 2 [L, 15-5 (5)]
The wheels fell off for Hendrix in the first inning of the game as the Mustangs scored five runs on seven hits to explode out of the gates.
Hendrix got on the board in the bottom of the first when
Austynn Caudle brought in
Rylee Harris with the bases loaded. Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the third,
Kaycee Schoen led off the inning with line drive solo shot to left center. The Warriors were unable to score another run in the inning after getting runners on the corners with two outs. The top of the fourth snowballed on Hendrix as CBC scored five runs in the inning for a commanding 11-2 lead. A three run-shot in the top of the fifth gave the Mustangs some insurance runs.
The Warriors made a late run in the bottom of the fifth when
Sophia Shuff doubled to center field to score
Julia Hayes and
Samantha Wood. Wolfe slapped her second triple of the afternoon out to the right field wall to score
Emmaline Trosclair and cut the CBC lead to 10, but that was the final run that Hendrix was able to score in Game 2.
