Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by Berry in Georgia

Mount Berry, Ga. - Hendrix was swept three games to none by the Berry Vikings over the weekend in the Warriors' conference-opening series.

Game 1 (L, 8-0)
Hendrix was shut out in a shortened Game 1 that ended in sixth-inning walk-off.

Emma Salis worked around a leadoff double in the bottom of the first to retire the next three batters and toss a scoreless frame. The Vikings plated two in the second inning after the Warriors went down in order in the visitor half of the inning.

Betty Wolfe singled in what was Hendrix's lone hit of the series opener to lead off the fourth but was left stranded at second to end the inning. Berry tacked on another run in the fourth inning before blowing the game wide open in the sixth with a two-out three-RBI double to make it 7-0. The run rule was brought into effect in the next at-bat with an RBI-double to end it.

Game 2 (L, 9-2)
The Warriors drew first blood in Game 2 as Betty Wolfe led off the game with a single. Kaycee Schoen singled to advance Wolfe to second, and Layton Rogers loaded the bases with a two-out single before Tori Veith earned an RBI-walk to score Wolfe for the game's first run. The Vikings quickly responded in the home half of the inning and, after tying the game off a fielding error, jumped out to a 4-1 lead off a bases-clearing double.

After Hendrix went down in order in the second, Berry put their stamp on the game with a five-spot with the help of a couple fielding errors to make it 9-1.

Wolfe led off the third with a single and made it to third on a one-out single from Schoen. Tori Maldonado then brought in Wolfe with an RBI-ground out for the Warriors' second run, but Schoen was left stranded at third to end the inning. That would be the last of the scoring in Game 2, with Sadie Lewis throwing 4.1 innings of shutout ball in relief of Emmaline Trosclair.

Game 3 (L, 8-4)
Berry plated four runs over the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead before Hendrix got on the board in the third inning. Ella Boling single down the right field line to lead off the inning and advanced to second base after Betty Wolfe helped instigate an infield error to put some traffic on the base path. Boling was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice from Kaycee Schoen, but Wolfe eventually scored from second on a couple defensive errors during Tori Maldonado's at-bat. Schoen and Maldonado were left stranded to end the inning.

Hendrix tacked on another in the fourth after Layton Rogers led off the inning with a triple to right center. Kendyl Patton then drove in Rogers with a double to right center, but was left stranded in scoring position as the next three batters all struck out swinging.

The Warriors were put down in order in the sixth inning, and Berry took advantage as they scored four more runs in home half of the inning to lead 8-2.

Betty Wolfe advanced to second off a Rylee Harris two-out walk in the seventh, and both were brought in on a Schoen two-RBI double to right center to make it an 8-4 game. Berry was eventually able to retire the side and end the game with a strikeout.
