Irving, Texas - Hendrix and Dallas squared off on Wednesday in their final doubleheader as nonconference opponents, with the Warriors doing the double over their Texas foes to snap what was an eight-game losing streak.
Game 1 (W, 3-0)
Emma Salis shut down the Crusaders en route to her second winning decision of the year. The junior did not go the distance but allowed just two hits in six scoreless frames with three strikeouts and faced six batters above the minimum.
Hendrix scored the game's only runs in the top of the second inning.
Austynn Caudle reached first on an error by the first basemen and then advanced to second on a one-out single from
Layton Rogers. After
Kendyl Patton struck out looking,
Peyton Frady loaded the bases with an infield single and made way for
Ella Boling. The freshman rolled over on a ball that went just a few feet fair in front of home but caused enough confusion in the Crusaders' defense to allow Caudle to score on an infield single.
Betty Wolfe then drove in Frady and Rogers with a two-RBI single up the middle for a 3-0 lead.
Salis worked around a two-out walk in the next half inning to retire the side. She allowed five baserunners from there on out and induced a clutch fly-out in the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded to get out of the jam.
Tori Veith entered in relief in the seventh inning and recorded her first save of the season to secure the shutout and the win.
Game 2 (W, 6-4)
Betty Wolfe led off the second half of the doubleheader with a double to right center field and touched home after a
Sophia Shuff one-out single to right field. Shuff was left stranded at third to end the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Dallas did a bit of two-out damage with an RBI-single and two bases-loaded walks to take a 3-1 lead.
Sadie Lewis entered in relief of
Emmaline Trosclair after the second RBI-walk and induced a fly-out to end the inning.
The Warriors responded in the next half inning when
Kaycee Schoen and Shuff scored on a two-out, two-RBI triple from
Rylee Harris to tie the game at 3-3. Harris then scored the go-ahead the run on an RBI-single from
Layton Rogers to make it 4-3. Hendrix tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning with some more two-out damage with an RBI-double from
Kaycee Schoen and an RBI-single from
Tori Maldonado to a three run lead.
From there, Lewis allowed just three base runners over the next four innings to record her first win in relief. The sophomore scattered two hits in 5.1 innings of work and allowed just one run.
