Softball Splits Series with Westminster

Conway, Ark. - After a quick road trip to Dallas, the Warriors hosted the Bluejays of Westminster College for a DH. The two teams split the series, with Hendrix dominating Game 1 and Westminster doing much of the same in Game 2.

Game 1 (W, 8-0)

Emma Salis was the starter in the circle for Game 1 and was phenomenal. Salis went 5 innings only allowing 4 hits and striking out 4.

The Warriors got the scoring started in the second inning after Ella Boling reached first on an error, scoring Kendyl Patton and Layton Rogers to go up 2-0.

Tori Maldonado added two more runs in the third after hitting a triple to score Rylee Harris and then scoring herself thanks to a throwing error on the base paths.

In the fourth inning, Betty Wolfe would send a double down the left field line to knock in another run to put the Warriors up 5-0.

The Warriors would plate the last three runs they needed to secure the run rule victory in the fifth. Layton Rogers would single up the middle to score Sadie Lewis who came in to pinch run. Patton would come up next and hit a single to score Austynn Caudle. Peyton Frady would drive in the final run with another single up the middle to bring Rogers in to end the game.

Game 2 (L, 9-3)

The Warriors looked to build off the momentum of Game 1, but fell behind early and weren't able to stretch their winning streak to 4 games.

Emmaline Trosclair got the start for the Warriors, going 2.1 innings with 7 hits and 7 runs (all earned). Sadie Lewis would come in relief, going 4.2 innings with 7 hits and 2 runs (1 earned).

Westminster got on the board early in Game 2, plating two in the first inning. Hendrix would cut into their lead with a Kaycee Schoen single to right field to score Betty Wolfe to make it a 2-1 game.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Bluejays would put up a 7 spot in the third to go up 9-1. Hendrix would fight to stay alive, thanks to a Schoen homer to right field to cut the deficit to 9-2.

The Warriors would plate one more run thanks to a Schoen SAC Fly in the seventh, but that would be as close as the Warriors got falling 9-3.

The Warriors will be back at home this weekend as they prepare to host the Centre College Colonels. The two teams will play a DH on Saturday, with first pitched scheduled for 12:00 PM CT. The third game of the series will be Sunday with first pitch scheduled at 12:00 PM CT, sponsored by Julie's Sweete Shop.
