Conway, Ark. - Hendrix softball dropped a Saturday doubleheader to the University of Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Softball Field.
Game 1 (L, 1-0)
Emma Salis was brilliant in the circle in the first half of the doubleheader, allowing just one run on six hits in 7.0 innings of work with a pair of strikeouts. The lone run came in the top of the first when the Spires got the leadoff hitter aboard and brought her in on a sacrifice fly.
The Warriors failed to give Salis any run support and were unable to anything in the couple of innings in which the leadoff hitter reached.
Kaycee Schoen led Hendrix with two hits.
Austynn Caudle,
Peyton Frady, and
Betty Wolfe each had a base knock.
Game 2 (L, 16-1)
Sadie Lewis held the Spires scoreless in her first three innings in the circle, and the Warriors scored their first and only run of the afternoon in the bottom half of the third when Sam Wood led off the inning with a single. Wood advanced to second on a
Peyton Frady groundout, and was then scored by a
Betty Wolfe RBI single.
Lewis worked around a one-out single in the fourth to retire the side and turn it back over to the Warrior bats, but Hendrix was put down in order in the next half inning.
The wheels then fell off in the fifth as the Spires plated seven runs on four hits and an error in the inning. They added one more in the sixth inning before a snowball seventh inning gave them a 16-1 lead, one that was too much for the Warriors to overcome.
Wolfe led Hendrix with two hits in the second half of the doubleheader.
