Batesville, Ark. - Hendrix put a bow on its 2025 nonconference slate with a 9-5 win over the Lyon Scots on Wednesday night in Batesville.
Cole Joyner got the ball to start and scattered three hits across 4.0 scoreless innings.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings as Hendrix was only able to manufacture four base runners on three hits and a free pass, but the game broke open in the top of the fourth as
Nick Echaniz sent a two-out double to right center field to score
Charlie Deaton and
Austin Rabago.
Joyner was able to work around a lead-off double in the Lyon fourth to retire the side with a little help from a
Joseph Watts' 8-5 putout at third base. After the Warriors went 1-2-3 in the fifth and sixth innings, Lyon scored a run in each of those innings to tie the game at 2-2. Hendrix retook the lead in the seventh when Rabago singled in Deaton after Deaton led off the inning with a double.
Cooper Carlton (W, 1-0), who had entered in the sixth, tossed a pair of scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings to turn it back over to the Warrior offense as they took a 4-2 lead into the final inning. Hendrix put up a five-spot in the ninth to take a 9-2 lead and were able to limit the Scots' offense in the final half inning to secure the 9-5 win.
Joseph Watts led the Warriors with three runs batted in on a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI single.
Carlton struck out three hitters in his three innings of relief work.
