Sewanee, Tenn. - Hendrix did the double over Sewanee on Saturday afternoon to clinch their second series in conference play this season. It is the program's first road series win in the Southern Athletic Association since 2022.
Game 1 (W, 5-0)
Emma Salis went the distance in a Game 1 shutout victory over the Tigers, scattering four hits across 7.0 scoreless innings to go along with four strikeouts. Salis saw just seven hitters above the minimum in her spectacular outing.
Hendrix loaded the bases in the top of the first with one out and
Betty Wolfe scored the game's opening run on an
Austynn Caudle sacrifice fly. The Warriors would leave two stranded headed into the home half of the inning, but put up a three-spot in the second inning to put more distance between them and Sewanee.
Sophia Shuff and
Peyton Frady led off the inning with a walk each, and were both brought in with a one-out
Betty Wolfe single to make it 4-0.
Kendyl Patton then smoked a two-double to right field to score Wolfe for the game's final run.
Game 2 (W, 5-4)
Sewanee scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead in Game 2.
Sadie Lewis (W, 3-4) worked around a one-out walk to retire the side in the second, and Hendrix got on the board in the next half inning as
Tori Maldonado induced an infield fielding error with two outs to score
Ella Boling. The tying run was thrown out 8-2 on the play.
Julia Hayes took advantage of another Tiger error in the fourth inning to score from second base and tie the game before
Betty Wolfe scored
Sadie Lewis on a bases-loaded RBI fielder's choice to give Hendrix the lead.
After surrendering two runs in the first, Lewis pitched four scoreless frames until the sixth when
Tori Veith entered in relief in the bottom of the sixth with the game tied at 3-3. Veith entered in a jam and was able to leave the go-ahead run stranded at third base with a pair of strikeouts.
Hendrix answered back in the seventh as Wolfe and
Rylee Harris led off the inning with hits to put runners on the corners. Harris stole second to put two in scoring position, and the two runners were then scored by a
Kendyl Patton RBI double. Veith surrendered one run in the seventh but was able to work around a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout to end the game and secure the series win.
Harris, Boling, and Patton led the Warriors with two hits apiece.
