Conway, Ark. - Hendrix had only managed one goal in their first three matches of the season leading up to Tuesday evening before the floodgates broke open against Westminster.
Josh Montgomery's brace and a goal each from
Jensen Pechar and
Tripp Ortega were enough to see off the Blue Jays in a dominant Warrior display.
Montgomery opened the scoring 16 minutes in after receiving a
Bryce Robinson cross near the penalty spot and slotting in a right-footed finish off the half-turn. Pechar added a second four minutes later, pouncing on a goal-line clearance that saw
Joan Puigpinos Jimenez's original effort denied. The Warriors would go into halftime up 2-0.
Montgomery bagged his second goal of the match just eight minutes into the second half with a tidy right-footed curler from outside the box.
Westminster got back in the game with a goal thirteen minutes from time and made the last ten minutes tough on the Warriors. But Hendrix was able to survive the Blue Jays' surge, and
Tripp Ortega was able to add a consolation goal with a minute remaining after being played through on goal and finishing a one-on-one with Westminster's goalkeeper.
Hendrix's back-line allowed few chances on goal from Westminster over the course of the 90 minutes, with
Gregorio Medina Armas being called into action just a couple times, mostly off second balls from opposition set-piece opportunities.
The win improves Hendrix to 1-2-1. They remain at home to host #3 Emory on Saturday evening at Warrior Soccer Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The match can be seen on FloFC presented by FloCollege.
