Bruce Has Career Day in Loss to Millsaps

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix was soundly defeated on Saturday afternoon 41-19 by the Millsaps Majors.

There were very few spots on the day save for Westin Bruce and Ryan Maxwell.

Bruce amassed a career-best 224 yards on just 4 catches, including a 96-yard touchdown reception to tie the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter and set a new program mark. Bruce's other score came on a 76-yard catch-and-run.

Millsaps threatened to take a two-possession lead into halftime but twice came up emtpy after approaching the goalline due to interceptions in the endzone by Ryan Maxwell. Maxwell picked off Millsaps' Grant Bizjack in the opening quarter as the Majors looked to take a two-score lead. Bizjack was picked off again by Maxwell in the second quarter on a 2nd and 5 from the Warriors' five-yard line.

But in the end, the Majors proved too overwhelming for Hendrix on on the day. Millsaps took advantage of a short-field opportunity early in the third quarter to go up by two scores. Hendrix was able to get into Millsaps' territory and looked set to continue a promising drive, but that drive came to an abrupt end when Bruce fumbled after receiving a 17-yard pass at the Major 15. The Warriors' defense was able to hold, but on the ensuing punt, Jaedin Kim mishandled the kick and gave the ball back to Millsaps. It took the Majors just four plays to score again and make it 28-7.

The Majors continued to pile it on in the second half before Hendrix was able to get back on the board with Bruce's 76-yard score.

With the game all but over, Jake Blice drove the Warriors down and hit Brooks McGee on a 44-yard heave as time expired for a consolation score.

Buniff finished the day 17-of-26 for 294 yards.

The Majors gained 27 first downs to just 14 for Hendrix and out-gained the Warriors by nearly 300 yards. Keaton Hahn led the Warriors' defense with 8 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss, while Jared Roberson recorded Hendrix's lone sack.

The loss drops Hendrix to 1-2 on the year. They will remain at home to host Rhodes next Saturday for a 6:00 PM kick at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
