Volleyball Defeats Webster on First Day of Rhodes Invitational

Memphis, Tenn. - Hendrix opened their weekend stay in Memphis with a 3-1 win over Webster on the first day of the Rhodes Invitational.

Riley Brady led all participants with 15 kills and a 4 service aces. Ana Bastos also hit double-digits with 10 kills, while Hailey Gripka tallied 9.

The Warriors breezed to a 25-10 opening set victory. Hendrix opened the set with five consecutive points, and after Webster rallied to make it 13-10, the Warriors closed the set with a remarkable 12-point run.

Brady opened the second set with her fourth kill of the match, but Hendrix would not lead again until very late in the set. Brittany Newberry's side went back-and-forth with the Gorlocks for much of the frame, but with the score at 19-18, Webster went on a 3-0 run for a 22-18 lead. However, Hendrix took advantage of 4 Gorlock attack errors to take 7 of the next 8 points and win their second-consecutive set.

Webster edged the Warriors 25-20 in the third set to extend the match and was in position to take it to a fifth set with the score at 21-21, but Hendrix put the hammer down with a 4-point run that was capped by a Faith Jones service ace to end the match.

Gripka was dominant at the net, tallying 5 blocks to go along with her 9 kills.

Hendrix also dominated from the service line with a whopping 13 service aces, including 10 combined between Brady, Mary Addisyn Stubbs, and Camryn Kennedy.

The Warriors (3-0) will close the Rhodes Invitational on Saturday with matches against Rhodes and Lyon.
