Football Falls to Maryville in Season Opener

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix opened the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 40-14 loss to Maryville College at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.

The Warriors took the lead on their opening possession, driving 64 yards on 11 plays. The drive was capped by Jacob Buniff finding Amare Foreman from 9 yards out.

Maryville scored on the ensuing possession, but Tristian Johnson blocked the extra point try to keep Hendrix in the lead. The Scots eventually took the lead with another touchdown with  6:19 left in the first half, but once again saw their extra point attempt blocked, this time by Ryan Maxwell.

Maryville tacked on another score with their opening possession of the second half to make it 20-7.

Buniff then hit Westin Bruce for a 36-yard score to trim the margin to 6, but the Scots answered back after just three minutes to push their lead back to double-figures.

From there, the wheels fell off for Hendrix as they turned the ball over three times in the second half, and Maryville was able to capitalize on all three turnovers, including two touchdowns in rapid succession to begin the fourth quarter.

Buniff ended the day 21-28 passing for 300 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Bruce led all receivers 111 yards on 4 catches. Auvic White netted 40 yards on the ground on 15 carries.

Defensively, Jayvian Coulter led the Warriors with a career-high 11 tackles. Keaton Hahn had 6 total tackles, with 2 of those going for a loss.

Hendrix drops to 0-1 on the year and will now head to Montgomery, Alabama to face off with Huntingdon College.
