Seguin, Texas - Hendrix suffered its third-consecutive defeat in conference play with a 75-53 loss to Texas Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym.
Kyle Roach and
Jaxon Herrera both went off for 17 points in the contest, but Hendrix struggled to keep pace with the Bulldogs from the opening tip. The 17 points was a season-high for Herrera and was one point shy of tying a career-high for the sophomore.
Defensively,
Charles Hatchett added four blocks to go along with six points.
Hendrix took the lead on the opening possession through a
Joseph Dockett jumper, but that lead soon vanished as TLU went on a 13-0 scoring run before a single free throw from Hatchett stopped the bleeding. Roach's jumper midway through the first half cut the Bulldog lead to six with the score at 19-13, but a subsequent 16-2 TLU run gave the hosts an emphatic lead once more. With Hendrix trailing by 21 with just under two minutes to play,
Eli Lovelady kick-started a 7-3 run to close the half, capped by two field goals from Roach to trim the margin to 17 going into halftime.
The second half belonged entirely to the home side, as TLU pushed the lead up to as much as 31. The Warriors allowed just one field goal in the final five minutes and closed the game on a 10-3 run, including the final six points.
Hendrix shot 33.9% from the field and just 15.8% from behind the are while TLU hit on 10 of their 32 three-ball attempts. The Warriors also committed 20 turnovers to just 13 from the hosts.
Hendrix (1-12, 1-3 SCAC) now returns home to host Colorado College on Friday for a 6:00 PM tip at Grove Gymnasium.
