Conway, Ark. - Hendrix rode double-doubles from
Riley Brady and
Brailey Forst and great shooting from
Chloey-Rei Brown and
Natalie Edmonson en route to an 83-68 win over St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors established themselves early offensively via Edmonson, who knocked two quick threes to begin the contest. Despite an early 13-3 lead, Hendrix found themselves trailing 19-15 at the end of the first quarter, but threes from Brown and
Brooklyn Rowe helped spark an 8-0 run to start the second quarter and give Hendrix its lead back. The run was highlighted by three-pointers from Brown and
Brooklyn Rowe. With the score tied at 29-29, Edmonson's three-ball put her side up 32-29, and two late foul shots from
Bella Cates sent Hendrix into halftime with a 34-31 lead.
The Warriors dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Celts 30-20. Hendrix began throwing the ball inside for Brady and Forst to work, with St. Thomas able to defend the forward duo. Edmonson continued her hot-shooting from deep with another three midway through the quarter to put the Warriors up 48-37 and create a bit of breathing room. Cates' transition three with 4:03 gave Hendrix its largest lead up to that point with the score at 53-39, and Brady put another two on the board on an ensuing possession to push the lead to 15.
St. Thomas cut the lead to 13 heading into the final frame, but prolific free throw shooting and second chance opportunities from the home side kept the Celts at bay, with Hendrix breezing to a 13-point win and their fourth victory in league play.
Chloey-Rei Brown led all scorers with 23 points to tie a career-high. Edmonson backed that up with 21 points, shooting over 50% from the field and going 5-of-10 from behind the arc. Brady notched her tenth double-double in eleven games with 15 points and 17 boards. She currently ranks second in all of NCAA Division III in rebounds per game. Forst followed suit with 10 points and 10 rebounds while also dishing out 6 assists. Sunday marked the first time in recent memory that two Warriors have recorded double-doubles in the same game.
The Warriors bested St. Thomas on the boards 46-36 and shot 37.5% from the field. The Celts' consistently sent Hendrix to the line throughout the forty minutes, with Hendrix knocking down 23 of their 32 attempts.
The win improves Hendrix to 8-6 and 4-2 in the SCAC. They currently sit tied for first in the SCAC Blue Division with Austin College, who they will visit next Friday evening in Sherman, Texas.
