Abilene, Texas - Hendrix suffered a 69-59 defeat to McMurry on Friday night at Kimbrell Arena.
It was an eventful game from start to finish, with the lead changing hands seven times and the score being tied on nine different occasions.
Riley Brady notched a season-high 28 points, the second-highest point total of her career, to go along with 20 rebounds, but it was not enough for Hendrix (9-8, 5-4 SCAC) as McMurry (12-5, 6-2 SCAC) hit just enough big shots down the stretch to keep the visitors at arms-length and see off the win.
Hendrix led for most of the opening quarter before a 5-0 run by the WarHawks to close the period gave them a 17-15 lead after the first. The Warriors outscored McMurry 14-9 over the following ten minutes to take a 29-26 lead into the halftime interval. Trailing 26-23 with under twenty seconds to play in the half,
Izzy Fernandez drained her first triple of the contest to tie the game. After securing a stop on the defensive end,
Natalie Edmonson swished a running-three at the horn to give the Warriors their three-point advantage.
Brady's layup with 3:04 left in the third-quarter gave the Warriors their largest lead of the night with the score at 40-33, but a quick 9-0 burst from the WarHawks gave the hosts a two-point advantage late in the third frame. Brady was twice good from the stripe to re-tie the game, and Edmonson followed suit with two foul shots to take a 44-42 lead before McMurry tied the game with thirty seconds left in the quarter to send game into the final period tied.
The WarHawks used an explosive fourth quarter to put the game to bed, scoring 25 points over the last ten minutes and icing the game with three three-pointers late.
Hendrix lost the turnover battle 23-15 and was outscored 34-18 in the paint. The Warriors also struggled mightily behind the arc, shooting just 19.0% from deep while shooting just 30.9% from the field.
Friday marked Brady's second 20-20 game and her fifth 20+ rebound performance of the season. Edmonson joined Brady in double-figures with 12 points.
The Warriors will close up their Texas road trip on Sunday as they head to Kerville for their first matchup with Schreiner (3-15, 2-7 SCAC) since 2015.
