SHERMAN, Texas - Hendrix bounced back from three-consecutive losses in the league to earn their SCAC win of the season with a 1-0 win over Austin College on Sunday afternoon.
T.J. Dubose's first career-goal came off a set piece midway through the second half, and proved to be enough to earn all three points.
Hendrix preserved the shutout despite a relentless attack from the 'Roos, with Cam Joniec and the Warriors' defense holding Austin scoreless despite a 21-8 shot margin. Joniec recorded 3 saves on the afternoon to earn his first shutout of league play.
The Warriors kept Austin off the board during an early first-half stretch that included two Austin corner kicks and three Austin shots in the opening 15 minutes. The Warriors recorded five shots in the half, with
Tripp Ortega and
Ignacio Arias each taking two, while Cam Joniec saved a header at 33:36 to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Dubose scored directly off a free kick to put the Warriors ahead 1-0 in the second half. Earlier, the Warriors absorbed pressure from the home side during a tough ten-minute stretch, with Austin College hitting the crossbar and post before Cam Joniec saved Colin Nguyen's shot to keep the match scoreless. After Dubose's goal, the Warriors earned consecutive corners and withstood another 'Roo push to hold off the hosts and earn the victory.
The win takes Hendrix to 2-7-1 (1-3-0 SCAC) on the year. They will stay on the road this upcoming week as they travel to Clarksville for an in-state clash with the University of the Ozarks.
