CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - Hendrix made it two wins out of two on Friday night with a 1-0 win over the University of the Ozarks.
Clayton Somogyi's winner midway through the second half was enough to earn all three points for the visitors, who have now won back-to-back games in the Southern Athletic Conference after losing their first three to start league play.
The Warriors only registered two shots on goal through the entire 90 minutes, including Somogyi's goal, while
Cameron Joniec kept his second-consecutive league clean sheet with three second-half saves. Ozarks saw two shots clang off the woodwork in the first half, but were limited by Hendrix's back-line in the second half in terms of goal-scoring opportunities.
In the 65th minute,
Jaden Esquenazi ran down a loose ball near the byline and played it back across the box to Somogyi, who redirected the cross back across goal into the upper right corner for his first goal of the season. The assist gave Esquenazi his first point of his Hendrix career.
Tripp Ortega joined Somogyi as the only Warriors to put a shot on frame on the night. Meanwhile, Joniec ended the evening with four saves,
The win takes Hendrix to 3-7-1 (2-3-0 SCAC). They will take a brief break in conference play as they host Champion Christian on Tuesday evening at Warrior Soccer Field.
