CONWAY - Hendrix was able to use the momentum from a big midweek split with Millsaps to win their first conference series of the year with a 2-1 weekend against Schreiner.
Game 1 (L, 5-0)
Hendrix was shut out in the series opener despite notching seven hits.
Bell Jaramillo went 3-for-4 at the plate, and
Emerson Naismith also had a multi-hit day with two hits in her final two at-bats of the contest.
Emma Salis (L, 2-7) was the pitcher of record, while
Sadie Lewis struck out five hitters in 5.0 IP of relief work.
Game 2 (W, 8-2)
Hendrix rode a collective 10-hit performance and a strong relief outing from
Gianna Robinson to win the second half of Saturday's doubleheader and even the series at 1-1.
Emmaline Trosclair worked around two first inning walks to retire the side and pitch a scoreless frame. The Hendrix offense responded with a two-spot in the home half of the inning. Back-to-back-to-back one-out singles from
Bell Jaramillo,
Rylee Harris, and
Kaycee Schoen loaded the bases, and
Tori Maldonado scored Jaramillo with a sacrifice fly for the game's opening run.
Austynn Caudle then singled in Harris to make it 2-0.
Schreiner scored two in the visitor third to tie the game at 2-2, but the Warriors responded with a three-spot in the next half inning. Schoen's one-out double put her in scoring position, and she then reached third after Maldonado bunted her over. With two outs on the board,
Peyton Frady doubled to left center to bring in Schoen and Maldanado and make it 4-2, and
Alyssa Sornia then singled in Frady to give Hendrix a three-run advantage.
Schoen led off the home fifth with a solo shot, and Frady scored
Julia Hayes from third with an RBI ground-out. Trosclair added one more run in the sixth with a lead-off solo shot to center field.
Gianna Robinson (W, 2-0) earned her second winning decision in as many appearances with 4.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits across her outing.
Game 3 (W, 8-3)
Schreiner drew first blood in Sunday's rubber match, which began early in the morning with a 9:00 AM first pitch due to inclement weather approaching the area.
The Mountaineers loaded the bases with no outs in the first and plated three runs before
Emma Salis could finally retire the side.
Sadie Lewis (W, 1-1) entered in relief of Salis in the second inning and carried Hendrix to victory with one of the best outings of her career, hurling 5.1 IP of shutout ball to go along with four strikeouts while allowing just two hits.
After leaving the bases loaded in the first inning and getting only two base-runners between innings two through four, Hendrix's bats came alive in the fifth with some serious two-out damage. Sornia and Trosclair led off the inning with walks before Naismith singled to left field to load the bases. The Warriors were in danger of leaving them loaded for the second time, but Schoen worked a two-out walk to bring in Trosclair and put Hendrix on the board. Maldonado then collected an RBI by wearing a pitch off the arm to score Naismith before
Austynn Caudle's pinch-hit double scored Schoen and Harris for the tying and go-ahead runs.
The Warriors added some insurance runs in the home sixth as Trosclair scored
Peyton Frady, and RBI doubles from Harris and Schoen gave Hendrix a comfortable 8-3 advantage.
Gianna Robinson entered in relief of Lewis with one out in the visitor seventh and shut the door on Schreiner with two quick outs to secure the rubber match and series victory.
