SB | Softball Dominates Lyon in Midweek Doubleheader

CONWAY - Hendrix ended its non-conference slate with a doubleheader sweep of Lyon on Wednesday evening at Warrior Softball Field.

Game 1 (W, 14-4)
Hendrix tallied 18 hits, including three doubles and two home runs, in what was a decisive victory over their in-state foes in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

After a scoreless Lyon first, the Warriors took an early lead when Bell Jaramillo reached on a fielding error and Kaycee Schoen doubled to right center, driving Jaramillo home for an unearned run. Hendrix left two in scoring position to take it to the second frame.

The second inning saw Hendrix extend its lead significantly. Alyssa Sornia and Emmaline Trosclair hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, and Emerson Naismith delivered a double to center field to bring in both runs. Jaramillo followed with a single up the middle for an RBI, and Rylee Harris added another RBI single. Peyton Frady capped the inning with a single to right center, scoring Harris. The Warriors led 6-0 heading into the third.

Lyon responded with a four-spot in the visitor third to fight their way back into the contest, but the home half of the inning snowballed on them to effectively put the game beyond doubt. Trosclair hit a lead-off solo shot to center field, and Harris followed with a three-run homer to left field. Hendrix added three more runs, including one due to a throwing error, to maintain the momentum. By the end of the third, the Warriors led 13-4.

The fourth inning featured a single from Jaramillo and a pinch-hit RBI single by Sophia Shuff, further extending Hendrix's lead. In the fifth, Sadie Lewis worked around a lead-off hit-by-pitch and a single to retire the side scoreless, capped by a backwards K, to deliver the win to Hendrix.

Emma Salis got the start in the circle and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out one batter. Lewis relieved Salis in the fourth and pitched 2.0 innings, giving up 2 hits with 1 walk and 1 hit batter while recording two strikeouts.

Harris led the offensive effort with a home run, totaling four RBIs and scoring twice. Trosclair contributed significantly with three hits, including a home run, and crossed the plate twice. Naismith added two hits, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Jaramillo also made an impact by scoring three runs and collecting two hits.

Game 2 (W, 10-5)
The Warriors secured a doubleheader sweep with a comeback victory in Game 2, fueled by strong offensive performances from Emerson Naismith and Austynn Caudle and a flawless, quality start from Gianna Robinson in the circle.

Robinson pitched three innings in her start and did not allow a base-runner over that stretch, completely shutting down Lyon's offense.

The Warriors set the tone offensively in the first with an Emerson Naismith lead-off with a single. Bell Jaramillo followed with a walk, and Caudle delivered a two-RBI single to put Hendrix ahead early.

In the second inning, Emmaline Trosclair singled and advanced to third before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Naismith, extending the lead to 3-0.

The fourth inning saw both teams scoring five runs each. Lyon rallied with a series of walks and singles, bringing in five runs. Hendrix responded with Trosclair reaching on an error and scoring on a single by Naismith. Later, Rylee Harris's single and Caudle's double drove in additional runs. The inning ended with Hendrix leading 8-5.

In the fifth inning, Trosclair doubled and later scored on a single by Naismith, pushing the lead further.

During the sixth inning, Harris singled and was driven in by a double from Caudle to add another run and make it 10-5 in favor of the home side.

Lyon was unable to score in the remaining innings as Trosclair settled in the circle after taking the ball from Robinson and fired three scorless innings after the five-run fourth.

Naismith led the offensive charge with three hits and three RBIs, contributing two runs and a stolen base, while Caudle posted a 4-for-4 day and drove in five runs, including two doubles. Harris recorded two hits and two RBIs while crossing the plate twice. Offensively, Trosclair scored three runs and added two hits, including a double, while also stealing a base.

Up Next: Hendrix (15-22, 9-18 SCAC) will wrap up the regular season this weekend with a three-game set against Austin College with a berth into the SCAC playoffs on the line. Hendrix will need a sweep of the 'Roos as well as a series of results elsewhere in order to qualify for the postseason tournament in Abilene.
